His sister Subhadra has welcomed her brother krishna with lots of sweets and applied a Tilak on the forehead of her brother. From that day it is said that the festival of Bhai Dooj is celebrated in India.

Let’s get to know the story behind the celebration of ‘Yamadwitheya’. It is believed that this is the day when God of death Lord Yama goes to meet his beloved sister the Yamuna on the 2nd day of New moon.
That day is celebrated as the Yama Dwitheya or you can also say Yama Dwitiya.
There is some special significance of brother and sister on that day:
- A ceremony is done by sisters on this day. They do the aarti for their brother and after the aarti applies ‘tilak’ on the forehead of her brother and gives her blessing.
- It is celebrated by sisters by welcoming the brother with a lot of love and blessing and a lot of sweets also.
- On this day the sisters make the favorite dishes and sweets for their brother to make them happy.
- The brother gives presents to their sisters on this day to show and express his unconditional love and unspoken care between them.
- If the brother is married and has children then the whole family is included in the celebration. The sister may apply tilak for the sister in law too.
The connection between brother and sister is very strong that they know about each other’s thoughts without speaking.
